KATHMANDU: The Nepal Supreme Court has ordered the release of notorious criminal Charles Sobharaj (78) from prison. The court ordered the release of Charles Sobharaj, who has been in jail for 19 years, on the grounds of old age. The court also ordered the deportation of Sobhraj within 15 days of his release. He has been in Nepali jail on the charge of murdering two American tourists in 2003.
Charles Sobharaj, the son of Indian Sobhraj Hotchand and Vietnamese Tran Loang Phun, was born in 1944 in Ho Chi Minh City, formerly known as Saigon. The world started hearing about him in the 1970s. He killed two dozen people between 1972 and 1976. It is estimated that he may have murdered more than 30 people.
