THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: There are reports that the NIA is likely to investigate the disappearance of a Malayali couple from Thrikaripur in Kasaragod. The report clarified that the NIA is investigating in the wake of the information received that the couple living in Dubai have fled to Yemen.

Mohammad Shabir, a native of Udinur, his wife Rizwana and their children have entered Yemen. It is clear from the investigation that they reached Yemen through Saudi Arabia. The intelligence team has received information that two youths from Padanna have also fled to Yemen with them. It is also indicated that one of them has entered Afghanistan. The information received said the couple went to Yemen for religious studies. Their terrorist links have not been confirmed yet. Indians are banned from going to Yemen.

In the past two months, eight people, including six members of a family, went missing during the investigation conducted by the central team and found that they were staying in Yemen under mysterious circumstances. After receiving some clues in this regard, the special investigation team had reached Thrikaripur yesterday and conducted preliminary surveillance to get the information. It is reported that a detailed investigation is required in this regard.

Some Malayalees had earlier joined the ISIS. Seven of them were killed in a drone attack. The investigation is being intensified in this context. The police had earlier clarified that there are sleeping cells of terrorist groups operating in Kerala.
