BENGALURU: Strict restrictions have been imposed on New Year celebrations in Karnataka amid the Covid surge in foreign countries. Masks must be worn in confined spaces. According to the guidelines issued by the Karnataka government, masks should be made mandatory in restaurants, pubs, theatres, schools and colleges.

“There is no need to panic or fear, and what the government has announced are only preventive measures aimed at controlling the virus spread and its impact.”, informed Karnataka Health Minister K Sudhakar.

A curfew has been imposed during New Year celebrations. The celebrations should only last till one o'clock in the night. Pregnant women, children, elderly and people with health problems are not allowed to be part of the crowd. The government's guidelines also state that people more than the seating capacity should not be admitted to events held in closed rooms. Covid protocols such as wearing a mask, washing hands frequently should be strictly followed.
