Covid: No strict restrictions to be imposed in Kerala as of now

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: As per the assessment of the Health Department, the state need not impose strict restrictions due to fear of B7, the new sub-variant of Covid. Self-regulation including usage of masks must be ensured. The directions were given by the Covid expert committee. Meanwhile, as there is a central directive to assess the Covid situation, the expert committee will convene again soon. A review meeting is planned to be held in the presence of the Chief Minister.

The Health department clarified that many of the news about the new variant are baseless and there is no need to worry and the current situation in Kerala is safe. Any regulation affecting the people directly will be only be taken as per the central directive. Or else, there should be a dramatic increase in the number of Covid positive patients in the state.

Health experts point out that if preventive measures including wearing masks and maintaining social distance are followed, then diseases including Covid and viral fever can be prevented. Everyone should take necessary precautions to ensure safety.

Meantime, a special campaign will be conducted for those who have not yet taken the vaccine. The Health department has also decided to provide facilities in hospitals to ensure treatment for the elderly and children if they fall ill.

The Health department says that although there is a huge increase in the number of fever patients in the state, not all of them are infected with Covid-19. It is Influenza which is part of the climate. At the same time, there are also concerns about the immunity of the person who is infected with Covid multiple times.
