Actress Riya Kumari’s husband arrested for her murder, contradictions in statement

KOLKATA: Prakash Kumar, producer and husband of Jharkhand actress Riya Kumari, has been arrested in connection with her death. The reports that came said that Riya was shot dead while preventing a robbery attempt. Prakash Kumar was the only eyewitness to the incident. He was arrested following his contradictory statements.

Riya, Prakash Kumar and their daughter were attacked while travelling to Kolkata. The incident took place in West Bengal's Howrah district at 6 am yesterday. A three-member team attacked the car they were traveling near Mahishrekha in Bagnan police station limits. It was claimed that Rhea was shot at while trying to save Prakash Kumar from being attacked by the assailants. The assailants then ran away. Prakash then traveled for three kilometers to seek help. Later, with the help of the locals, Riya Kumari was taken to SCC Medical College Hospital in Uluberia, but her life could not be saved.

Meantime, forensic experts found blood and remains of bullet shell in the back seat of the car. Prakash Kumar was arrested after this. Riya's parents had also filed a complaint with the police stating that their daughter had been killed. The family alleged that Riya was subjected to physical and mental abuse by her husband for earning more than him and being more famous. Prakash will be produced in the court today.
