KOCHI: The first arrest has been registered in the NIA raid conducted in 56 Popular Front (PF) centers in the state. Muhammed Mubarak of Edavanakkad in Ermakulam has been arrested. He will be produced in the court today. He is a lawyer in the high court. It is heard that Mubarak, an early activist of the Popular Front, was a trainer of Karate and Kung Fu. He runs an organic coconut oil production unit now. His wife is also an advocate.
With the arrest of top leaders of the PF, a raid was conducted at the houses of second level leaders. It is hinted that the NIA has summoned more people for interrogation following their connection with PF. Unconfirmed reports said weapons were seized from Mubarak’s house. However, his family had rejected it. The NIA team who reached his house at 4 am conducted the raid till 9. They left after taking him into custody. He was arrested after grilling him for nearly 20 hours. The NIA received information that there was an attempt to revive the banned organization. The raid was after this.
