Haryana sports minister quits after woman coach lodges complaint against him for sexual misconduct

NEW DELHI: The police registered a sexual abuse complaint against Haryana Sports Minister Sandeep Singh, following the complaint lodged by a junior athletics coach. The minister resigned from his post and termed the case as an attempt to taint his image.

Soon after resigning, he said that he hopes there will be a thorough probe into the false allegations levelled against him. He handed over the charge of his portfolio to the chief minister until the report of the probe comes out.

The woman while convening a press meet demanded that Manohar Lal Khattar government immediately sack Singh.

She in her complaint mentioned that he first saw her at a gym and then contacted her on Instagram.

He later messaged her on social media that her national games certificate is pending and wanted to meet her in this regard. When she went to meet him at his residence cum office, he indulged in sexual misconduct.

Sandeep Singh, sitting BJP MLA from Pehowa in Kurukshetra, is also a professional field hockey player, and was the captain of the Indian national hockey team.
