ALAPPUZHA: Ramesh Chennithala was served idlies and sambar on plate made from areca palm leaf by Ooru Moopan Sudheesh Koti. Chennithala sat with Rajamma, Chandrika, and others of the colony and had food.
Ramesh Chennithala’s ‘Gandhi Gramam’ project has entered its 14th year with his celebrations of the new year together with the residents of the colony. With the lighting of the lamp by the oldest people in the colony Sankari Amma, Sarassama and Sarala this year’s welfare activities have begun.
This year’s celebration was at Chennatu Colony at Kumarapuram in Haripadu. As part of the project Ramesh Chennithala announced Rs.50 lakhs worth of help in two phases.
His lunch was also arranged at the colony. Distribution of clothes, food grains, laptops, and 17 cycles to 66 families were done. A multi-speciality medical camp was also conducted by Doctors for Social Justice. Fourteen doctors’ services were received. Free medicines were given and also follow up treatments were also assured. After the culture festivities by the Folklore Academy at night, the one day celebrations came to an end.
