CHENNAI: Actor turned politician Gayathri Raghuram, who was suspended from the BJP last year, has resigned from the party. She said women are not safe in the party in Tamil Nadu. She was the chief of BJP’s cultural wing.

The lack of equality within the party and lack of respect for women prompted her to resign from the BJP. It is with great sadness that such a decision was taken. Women are not safe under Annamalai's leadership. The jokes from outsiders are better than this, tweeted Gayathri.

Gayathri was suspended for her public response to the party's OBC wing state leader Surya Siva's verbal abuse towards minority leader Daisy.
