THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Education Minister V Sivankutty said non-vegetarian food will be served in the state school arts fest from next year onwards. He said the government is not against serving meat and fish and wanted to give biryani to the children who had reached Kozhikode.

‘It is the children who are eating and a concern is there of them developing physical problems if served non-veg. However, from next year onwards there will be non-veg. We want to serve biryani. My wish was to serve biryani to the children who reached Kozhikode. I had discussed it with the officials. Is the Brahmin supremacy which did not exist for 60 years seen now. Some are trying to create controversies. Everything said is utter nonsense. The cause of the controversy is jealousy and resentment towards the conduct of the arts fest. The minister also asked whether V T Balram was sleeping during the Kalotsavam held during the tenure of the UDF.

Pazhayidom Mohanan Namboothiri had responded that discussions over food are unnecessary. ‘Food is prepared as per the menu of the government. There is no objection in serving non-veg during Kalotsavam. The government should decide whether to serve non-veg or not. He said there are people in his group who serve meat during sports fest. Meantime, he pointed that there are practical difficulties in serving meat at the arts fest.
