THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Varkala MLA V Joy will become the Thiruvananthapuram district secretary of CPI (M). The change follows the current secretary Anavoor Nagappan becoming a member of the state secretariat. The decision was made in the meeting of the state committee members from the district. The meeting was attended by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.
Even ten months after the state conference, Anavoor Nagappan continued to be the district secretary. The biggest challenge in finding a replacement for Anavoor was the infighting within the Thiruvananthapuram CPM. Anavoor Nagappan, Kadakampally Surendran and V. Sivankutty are the prominent CPM leaders in the capital.
Recently, Anavoor Nagappan's name was mired in controversy in connection with the mayor's letter controversy in the corporation. It is estimated that the controversy has caused severe humiliation to the CPM. At that stage, there were opinions that Anavoor should be replaced, but the decision was to keep him in position till the state conference of the women's association on January 15.
