KOCHI: Famous art director Sunil Babu has passed away. He was 50. He died last night at the Amrita Hospital in Ernakulam following cardiac arrest. Sunil Babu, a native of Mallappally in Pathanamthitta, was a busy art director in Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu and Bollywood films. He had received the state’s film award for best art director for Santhosh Sivan’s Anandabhadram.
He was admitted in the hospital three days back for a swelling on his leg. He suffered a heart attack Thursday night at 11 pm. He last worked in Vijay’s unreleased film Varisu.
After completing studies from Mysuru Arts College, he entered the film industry through noted art director Sabu Cyril. He later became a busy art director. He had worked for nearly 100 films including Chotta Mumbai, Urumi, Aami, Notebook, Kayamkulam Kochunni, Premam, Bangalore Days, Pazhassi Raja etc.
He was also the art director of Bollywood films M S Dhoni, Ghajini, Lakshya, Special Choubees and many others. He was also the art director of a Hollywood film.
He is the son of Thankappan Nair of Kunnamthanam in Mallappally and Saraswathy Amma. He leaves behind his wife Prema and daughter Arya Saraswathy.
