Tiger should be captured immediately, compensation of Rs 50 lakh should be given to family of deceased farmer; UDF announces hartal in Thondernad panchayat tomorrow

WAYANAD: The UDF has announced a hartal tomorrow in Thondernad panchayat in Wayanad after a man was killed after being attacked by a tiger. The UDF announced the hartal demanding the immediate capture of the tiger. The UDF also urged the government to give Rs 50 lakh as compensation to the deceased's family.

Mananthavady Puthusseri Vellaramkunnu native Thomas alias Salu (50) died on Thursday. Salu had sustained serious injuries on his hand and leg. He was in critical condition and died due to a heart attack while being shifted to Kozhikode Medical College. Salu was attacked by the tiger on his farm Thursday morning. The tiger entered Vellaramkunnu the other day. Following the incident, forest guards reached the spot and intensified a search. A decision was taken to catch the tiger after tranquilizing the animal after the locals staged protests.
