TRIVANDRUM: Times once included Kerala among the magazine's 100 best spots to visit. The news got carried away and was boasted by the government and people alike. Now, another one of the elite, the New York Times, has issued a feature of ’52 places to go in 2023’ among which, one is Kerala.

Kerala ranks 13 and is the only state from India to make it into the list prepared by NYT. According to the list, Kerala is a spot to travel for its beaches, backwater lagoons, cuisine and rich cultural traditions like the ‘Vaikathashtami’ festival. New York Times lauded the Kerala government for its award-winning approach which allows visitors to experience village life. New York Times also specially mentioned Kumarakam and Maravanthuruth destinations in the article.

It was Paige McClanahan, the big name in tourist journalism who covered Kerala for NYT’s special feature. The news has reenergized tourism minister Muhamed Riyas’s long-said dream of turning Kerala into a tourist hub of the country. The minister called for more cooperation from foreign countries to boost tourism in the state.
