KOCHI: Waste won’t be removed from homes and institutions that shy away from contributing user fees to Haritha Karma Sena workers, Minister M B Rajesh informed. LSGD Minister M B Rajesh told TNIE, “Waste management is the responsibility of local bodies. There are provisions to collect user fee for waste management services. Local bodies can take steps to ensure user fee is paid for Haritha Karma Sena’s services.”

The minister egged on the government to adopt more scientific methods in waste management. He also vouched that Kerala will turn waste free in 2026. In rankings, Indore in Madhya Pradesh tops the list for being the cleanliest place in India. Kerala is one the move to emulate Indore, told M B Rajesh while talking to the global expo in Kochi.

Controversy snowballed after a user fee was made mandatory for HKS to remove waste from homes. Many claims that HKS works are irregular and the service is below par.
