Man held for posing as narcotic official and cheating money

THRISSUR: The Ollur police arrested a man for cheating money after posing as a narcotic official. The arrested is Akbar, a native of Pazhuvil in Thrissur. He cheated a person running a shop at Cherukunnam in Puthur. He made the shop owner believe that he was a narcotics officer and that he had received secret information about the shop selling prohibited tobacco products.

He then asked him to pay Rs 3,000 to avoid being involved in the case. According to that, he paid the money. He lodged a complaint with the Ollur police after realizing that he was a victim of fraud. Akbar was arrested in an investigation conducted focusing on the CCTV. The police said that Akbar was jailed earlier in a kidney fraud case.

The accused produced in the court has been remanded. Ollur sub inspector Prakash, ASI Joshy and CPO Abhish Antony arrested the accused.
