Banned notes worth lakhs seized in Kannur, traffics to two countries

KANNUR: Based on the information that there is an attempt to sell ivory at a house in Palakunnu area, a joint checking by the forest department Kannur flying squad and Kannur special protection and investigation wing seized prohibited notes of Rs 1000 and Rs 500 being carried in a Maruti car. Narayanan, a native of Palakunnu, was caught with 88 banned notes of Rs 1000 and 82 notes of Rs 500. The car was also seized.

Information was received earlier that banned notes were being smuggled to Sri Lanka and Nepal from several parts of Kasaragod. The seized prohibited notes, the accused and the vehicle were handed over to Melparambu police for further investigation.
