Tripura to go to polls on February 16, Meghalaya and Nagaland on 27, counting of votes on March 2

election

NEW DELHI: The dates for the assembly polls in Nagaland, Meghalaya and Tripura have been announced. The polling in Tripura will be on February 16. Elections in Meghalaya and Nagaland will be held on February 27. Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar informed that the counting of votes will take place on March 2 in all the three places.

There are 60 seats each for Nagaland, Meghalaya and Tripura. There are 9125 polling stations in three states and 62.8 lakh voters. All employees in 376 booths are women.
In all the three constituencies there are more women voters than men. 2.28 lakh are maiden voters. Polling will be webcast in 75 percent of the booths. The election commission has informed to arrange a system to prevent fake visuals. He said in the press meet that strict action will be taken against fake news.

Manik Saha of BJP is presently the chief minister of Tripura. Manik replaced Biplab Dev following anti-government sentiment. The party demands that the central and state governments should continue their administration for development activities. The Congress and CPM will compete together to defeat the BJP.

In Meghalaya, the NPP-BJP alliance is presently in power. Conrad Sangma of NPP is the chief minister. NDPP is currently the ruling party in Nagaland. Neiphiu Rio is the chief minister.

The terms of Nagaland, Meghalaya and Tripura assemblies will end on March 12, March 15 and March 22 respectively. A team led by Rajiv Kumar had visited these states in the past few days. The election commission held meetings with political parties, civil servants and central security officials.

Meantime, the Lakshadweep by-election will also be held on February 27. The announcement comes after the disqualification of Lakshadweep MP Muhammad Faisal. The MP was disqualified after he was sentenced to ten years in prison in an attempted murder case.
