THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has heaped praises on renowned director Adoor Gopalakrishnan amid controversy regarding caste discrimination at the KR Narayanan Institute. Speaking at the 80th-anniversary celebrations of Deshabhimani, the CM said that Adoor is one of the best directors in the world.
"Adoor Gopalakrishnan is one of the best directors in the world. He is the brand ambassador of Malayalam cinema in the international arena. He always has an insatiable passion for cinema," the CM said.
During the function, Pinarayi Vijayan presented Adoor with the 2022 Deshabhimani Award. The award consists of a plaque, Rs 2 lakh and a citation. The award was presented to Adoor for his overall contribution to the film industry.
Meanwhile, Adoor Gopalakrishnan lashed out at the media over the caste discrimination controversy. He said that these are times when people are believing the news created by the media. Earlier, Adoor had dismissed the allegation that caste discrimination was taking place at the Film Institute. He said that the allegation was wrong and that the SC/ST Commission had checked the matter and found that the allegation was false.
