21 injured after bus carrying tourists falls into gorge in Idukki

IDUKKI: A mini-bus carrying 20 tourists slid off road into a 50 ft deep gorge near Peruvanthanam here. The vehicle was carrying tourists from Thane in Maharashtra when it lost control and slid into the gorge at Chamapara bend near Kodikuthi. The tourists and the driver of the bus were admitted to the hospital.

Eight people were admitted to Kottayam Medical College with severe injuries including broken limbs. Others have been admitted to a nearby private hospital. A major disaster was averted as the minibus hit a coconut tree at a depth of fifty feet. The police and fire force reached the spot and rescued the injured. As per sources, no one is seriously injured. The tourists were on their way to Thiruvananthapuram after visiting Thekkady.
