Five youths killed in car-lorry collision on national highway in Alappuzha

ALAPPUZHA: Five youths were killed after the car in which they were travelling collided with a lorry on the national highway. Four are natives of the capital city and the fifth a native of Mundrothuruthu in Kollam.

The dead have been identified as Shijindas (24), son of Yesduas of Alathur in Thiruvananthapuram, Manu (24), son of Mohanan of Kulathinkara in Alathur, Prasad (25), son of Sreekumar of Alathur Thekkekara and Amal (28), son of Radhamani of Mundrothuruthu in Kollam. The accident happened early Monday morning at Kakkazham overbridge in Ambalappuzha.

The car going to Alappuzha collided with the lorry which was on its way to Kollam. There were five people in the car. Four died on the spot and one in the hospital. All the five were temporary employees of the canteen in ISRO.

The car has been completely damaged in the accident. All the five were taken out of the car after dismantling the vehicle. The lorry driver also sustained injuries. Though it is yet to be ascertained what caused the accident, sources said over speeding is the reason for the accident.
