NEW DELHI: Supreme Court has lifted the ban on activist Rehana Fatima from expressing her opinions on social media. The Supreme Court lifted the ban by clarifying that Rehana should refrain from responding on matters that hurt religious sentiments and in connection with the case. The Supreme Court has disposed of the plea seeking relaxations on the bail conditions of Rehana Fatima.
The state government had filed an affidavit in the Supreme Court opposing the petition for relaxation in bail conditions sought by Rehana Fathima in a case pertaining to Sabarimala darshan. The state government told the court that Rehana Fathima had repeatedly circulated posts that hurt religious sentiments and had violated the bail conditions several times and hence should not be granted relaxation.
Following the verdict on Sabarimala women’s entry, Rehana shared a picture on social media with a caption that she was about to visit Sabarimala. The BJP workers then filed a complaint at the Pathanamthitta police station stating that Rehana had hurt religious sentiments through her post. . Although Rehana was arrested on the basis of the complaint, she was granted bail by the High Court.
