THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The state Congress leadership, which was planning to gain political advantage in the BBC documentary controversy, suffered an unexpected blow after Anil Antony resigned from all the elected positions in the party and raised a voice of protest. Anil Antony resigned from the party posts after all the major Congress leaders of the state came out against him.
Anil Antony, son of senior leader AK Antony, has vacated the posts of digital media cell convener of AICC and KPCC. Anil Antony's harsh criticism directed against the leaders of the state Congress while announcing his resignation changed the course of discussions in the party. Antony refused to comment on Anil's stance. Although Shashi Tharoor opposed the ban on BBC documentary, he said that the Gujarat riots issue should not be discussed now. This stance has also disturbed the Congress.
KPCC president K Sudhakaran rejected Anil's stance by assessing that Anil's statement has given arms to the party's opponents. Opposition leader VD Satheesan also denied Anil yesterday.
Anil Antony had stated that the BBC documentary on the Gujarat riots was an encroachment on India's sovereignty and that it was dangerous for people in India to prioritize the BBC's view over Indian institutions.
