KANNUR: The police have caught Antony Sunny, the main accused in the Kannur Urban Nidhi investment scam case. Antony, who was in hiding, was taken into custody by Kannur Town Inspector PA Binumohan and the squad. Police will soon record the arrest of the accused. The Thalassery District Sessions Court had rejected Antony Sunny's anticipatory bail application the other day.
Nearly 350 complaints have been lodged at various police stations across the state. It is alleged that the accused had committed fraud of more than Rs 30 crores. The financial firm has received vast sums of money from outside the country. The police also suspect that hawala transactions had taken place. On the other day, the police took accused Thrissur native Gafur and Malappuram native Shaukat Ali to their homes and various branches of the firm for collecting evidence. The financial firm had attracted many people by promising them 12 percent interest on their investments as well as jobs there. The first case was registered on the complaint of a doctor from Thalassery who lost Rs 59 lakh.
