THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Health minister Veena George admitted to lapses in the distribution of health cards across the state. The minister said that soon the health card will be ship-shaped in digital format to make it more user-friendly and transparent. Health card for hotel staff was made mandatory after repeated cases of unhygienic food being served turned rampant in the state.

The minister also lashed out at doctors who are indulging in bribery and issuing health cards breaking all ounces of basic norms. Meanwhile, RMO in general hospital Dr. V Amitkumar was suspended after he was caught issuing health cards after taking bribes from hotel staff.

The CCTV visual of RMO pocketing Rs 300 and issuing the cards with no checkup was widely spread in the media. The minister apprehended the practice and made it adamant that only staff members with health cards will be made to work in bakeries and hotels.
