NEW DELHI: Shreyas Iyer is one of the promising batters in the Indian cricket team and his injury was a setback for India during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series. Iyer, who was supposed to bat after Jadeja on the fourth day, did not play due to severe back pain. He is expected to be on the sidelines for some time. This looked like a situation where Sanju Samson can come in as a replacement in the India-Australia ODI series.

But BCCI's decision was to not make any changes to the team. BCCI sources say that Sanju was not deliberately overlooked on this occasion.

A media report quoting a BCCI official claim that Sanju has not fully recovered from the injury. BCCI is facing an injury crisis, as many promising cricketers, including Bumrah, haven't recovered after his surgery. Sanju is still at the National Cricket Academy to recover from his injury. The BCCI is of the opinion that Sanju should return after his injury is completely healed.
