KOLLAM: Police have registered a case against Satheesh, the husband of 30-year-old Athulya from Kollam, who was found dead in her apartment in Sharjah. Acting on a complaint lodged by Athulya’s family, the Chavara Thekkumbhagam police have booked Satheesh on murder charges. He also faces charges related to physical assault and dowry harassment.
According to the family, Athulya had been facing constant harassment over dowry. She was found hanging in her apartment late Friday night. The couple had been living in the UAE for over a year and a half. Satheesh, an engineer with a construction company in Dubai, reportedly argued with Athulya on the night of the incident. He then left for Ajman with friends and found her dead upon returning early in the morning.
Relatives allege that Satheesh was a regular drinker and often abused Athulya physically. They had also filed a previous complaint about this with the Sharjah police.
Athulya and Satheesh have a 10-year-old daughter, Aaradhika, who currently lives in India with Athulya’s parents. Athulya’s sister, Akhila Gokul, stays near their Sharjah flat and had reportedly been told about the abuse. The body is currently with the Sharjah forensic department and will be brought to India after official procedures are completed.
