RIYADH: People in Arab countries are facing difficulties due to the sandstorm. NASA has released a picture of a sandstorm that began on May 16 and moved from Iraq to various Gulf countries. Strong winds hit Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Iran and Iraq on Wednesday. As a result, thousands were hospitalized and schools were closed. Flights to various countries were also delayed.

Climate change is having a major impact on the Gulf countries, which causes such sandstorms to intensify. Experts have warned that the situation could worsen in the coming days. The sandstorm was strong enough to obscure large buildings in Dubai. In Bahrain, too, there was a sandstorm that made transportation impossible.

Government offices, schools and universities in Tehran, Iran, have been closed due to bad weather, according to official media reports. The same thing happened in the holy city of Najaf in Iraq. Baghdad also experiences strong sandstorms. There were eight sandstorms in Iraq until mid-April. This is at a time when declining rainfall, soil erosion and severe drought are creating difficulties in Iraq.
