THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: During the time of ISRO spy case, several people of the Congress A group stood against Chief Minister K Karunakaran. This has been clarified by the assembly records of that time.
Antony group of Congress had reached the assembly on January 30, 1930 under the leadership of P T Thomas with a clear plan to trap K Karunakaran. Thomas and the opposition asked ten questions in connection with the spy case to K Karunakaran. Most important question was why IG Raman Sreevastava was not arrested though his name was mentioned several times during investigation. They wanted to show the tight relationship between Raman Sreevasthava and Karunakaran.
The last four questions were:
1. Has the report mentioned names of any police officials in connection with the case?
2. Is there any court verdict announcing that state police officers were involved in the spy case?
3. If so, can the chief minister reveal the names of these officers and their positions?
4. Has the government taken any action against these officials? If yes, what were the actions taken?
However, Karunakaran faced all this alone during the time. He gave clear answers to most of the questions.
V S Achuthanandan and Pinarayi Vijayan had also involved in the discussion. Pinarayi alleged that the prime minister and chief minister are standing united to save Raman Sreevasthava. Achuthanandan called Sreevasthava as the 'main villain' of the case.
However, the harshest criticism against Sreevasthava was raised later by V V Raghavan. "Nobody else know Sreevasthava as people of Thrissur know him. Do I have to say that Raman Sreevasthava is someone who is not hesitant to disgrace his uniform and the country when he sees money and women? When a remark against Raman Sreevasthava came in the report stating that he was involved in leaking secrets to a woman like Mariyam Rasheeda by accepting nine lakh US dollar, is a suspension enough? Why did you not arrest him?” asked V V Raghavan.
