THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Cheruppulasseri Parthan, one of the private captive elephants in Kerala is in doomed state.
A bunch of elephant activists has urged the State Forest department to seize the elephant and take strong action against people responsible for his plight.

(Cherpulassery is a town and municipality in the Palakkad district. Two famous temples are also located at Cherpulassery. One is Sabarimala of Malabar, Sree AyyapanKavu and the other is Puthanalakkal Bhagavathi Temple.)

Even though Parthan is unwell and has deep wounds on his body that are ignored and left untreated, his owner plans to make him participate in the coming temple festival season.

The serious, chronic raw wound on his leg has been conveniently ignored by the owner. He has reportedly no intention to treat it. The owner’s only concern is to mint money out of him by sending the voiceless being from temple to temple for poorams and from church to church for their religious fairs.

With no good vet to give him timely treatments and medications, his condition has been worsening over past several months. His legs have swelling and have lost good shape. He even has difficulty in walking with those legs.

Parthan has partially lost mobility in one of his limbs. His money-minded owner, is least bothered about the elephant’s serious condition and has no clue about the extent of his illness. The owner has been exploiting him by shuttling him from temple to temple and church to church for big money, according to elephant activists.

“We request that this elephant be seized immediately by the Forest Department of Kerala and strict action be taken against the perpetrators of this cruelty. The owner, the agents, festival organisers, and also the corrupt veterinarians who certify this animal fit, despite his bad state of health should be brought before the law,” they plead.
