THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The police have arrested Mariyappan from Tamilnadu, who was absconding after murdering his 45-year old wife Kanniyammal at their house near Mukkolakkal temple. He was captured by Ambasamudram police and Fort police has left to Tamil Nadu for taking him in custody. He was captured by Ambasamudram police on the basis of information obtained from one of his relatives. The incident happened on 11 pm on Sunday. The couple had been residing at Thiruvananthapuram for many years and the murder happened when they reached home after watching a movie. The couple had reached Thiruvananthapuram for selling scraps and kitchen utensils and they were living with their younger son Manikandan.

The body of Kanniyammal was found by Manikandan, who works as a Pizza delivery boy at 11:30 pm from their house.  The body of Kanniyamma was lying in a pool of blood and there was a deep injury on her head. Manikandan informed this to the house owner and neighbour immediately.  Mariyappan had escaped on a scooter and he had thrown away his mobile phone near Peroorkkada as he did not want the police to track him by using his mobile signal.  Though the police suspect that the murder was caused due to Mariyappan’s doubt, more details will be revealed only after interrogating Mariyappan. It has been hinted that he will be brought to Thruvananthapuram by Tuesday evening.

Kanniyammal’s body has been transferred to Tamilnadu for cremation after post mortem. The investigation is led by Fort assistant commissioner Dinil under the supervision of deputypolice commissioner Aditya.
