CHENNAI: Police have again arrested moneylender Maharajan Mahadevan, who had escaped from the police custody. He was arrested by Kerala police from Chennai. Police said he had financial dealings to the tune of Rs 500 crore.
Earlier, though he was arrested from Chennai, the police van was intercepted near Coimbatore in the midnight and Maharajan was freed.
During the search conducted after this incident, he was arrested from Chennai by Saturday noon.
During the arrest, a gang of about 30 men had blocked the police. Later, police had to fire at the sky to disperse them and arrest Maharajan.
Maharajan is a person who lent huge amounts of money to certain hospitals and hotels for high interest rate. Police plan to transport him to Kerala by flight and record his arrest.
