THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A post mortem or an autopsy is a highly specialized surgical procedure that consists of a thorough examination of a corpse by dissection to determine the cause and manner of death or to evaluate any disease or injury that may be present for research or educational purposes. Doctor Krishnan Balachandran has come forward writing about his official experiences related to postmortem.
“Mortuary is a place where no one in a hospital likes to go. The mortuary building will be usually situated at a corner in the hospital. Most of the people who reach here may not be relatives of the dead. This is good”, said the doctor.
“A postmortem doctor should keep some secrecy. The doctor should submit a report within 72 hours after the post mortem. A copy should be given to the relatives as well. Relatives come for this report so that they can submit the report for availing the insurance amount. Some people will come to see the doctor after obtaining the report. Some people approach the doctor so that they can understand the report and some people come just to see the doctor who examined the body of their beloved people. They will touch the doctor’s hand and often, the hand will be wet with tears of love”, he said in the Facebook post.
