THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Gita Gopinath has been appointed as Chief Economist of International Monetary Fund (IMF).
Gita Gopinath is the John Zwaanstra Professor of International Studies and Economics at Harvard University. Her research focuses on International Finance and Macroeconomics. In October 2018, she was appointed as the Chief Economist of The International Monetary Fund. She also serves as the Economic Adviser to the Chief Minister of Kerala.
The Managing Director (MD) and Chairwoman of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Chirstine Lagarde stated that Gopinath has had an impeccable record of intellectual leadership, and called her as one of the world's most outstanding economists.
