THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Dr. K J Yesudas said that the demise of Balabhaskar is a huge loss for the music industry. Balabhaskar was someone who loved music very much, said Yesudas.

Balabhaskar, critically injured in a road accident last month, passed away at 1 am on Tuesday at a private hospital in Thiruvananthapuram. Though his condition was improved yesterday, he died after suffering a heart attack.

The car in which Balabhaskar and his family were travelling met with an accident on September 25 at 4 am at Sreepadam colony near CRPF camp in Pallippuram. His two-year-old daughter Thejaswini Bala had died on the spot. Wife Lakshmi and driver Arjun is currently under treatment. They were returning from Vadakkumnatha temple in Thrissur to their home in Thirumala.

Balabhaskar was best known for promoting fusion music in South India. Hailing from a family with a musical background, he was introduced to the world of instrumental music at the age of three, by his uncle B. Sasikumar, an expert in Carnatic music. He became the youngest music director in the Malayalam film industry when he composed for the movie Mangalya Pallak at the age of 17. He has also composed music for several albums.
