high-court

KOCHI: The High Court of Kerala has again asked the government why they are revealing the names of people who did not participate in the salary challenge to rebuild Kerala. The court directed the government not to reveal those names.

“There will be conflicts among the officers if the government reveals these names. This decision divides the officers into two categories. The government should clarify whether they have taken any action against those who did not donate their salaries to the chief minister’s disaster relief fund. It is not right to collect money forcefully in the name of floods”, the court pointed.

Division bench said that the disagreement clause is kind of forcing. The chief minister had requested to donate one month’s salary for disaster relief activities and he had promised that nobody will be forced. This disagreement clause in the government order is against this promise. This will only limit the government’s objective. The government should have collected agreement letter from those who are ready to donate their salary instead of collecting disagreement clause. The government had clarified that this is an internal issue within the departments. The government had informed the court that the list has secrecy and they will not reveal it.

Advocate general clarified that the government is not forcing officers to donate salary and several concessions have been given to those who donate their salaries. The case will be considered later on Tuesday.
