THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: As the Congress is heading for election work related to the Lok Sabha election, a new controversy has broken out in the State unit of the Congress party. From its account which had a balance of Rs 4:3 crore, 3/4th of the amount was allegedly embezzled in the name of overhead costs. Interestingly this happened just before Mullapally Ramachandran took over as the new KPCC chief. What is left in the party account is just Rs 1.3 crore.

Rs 4.3 crore was present in the account till four days before Mullapally Ramachandran was inducted as the KPCC president. Though attempt was again made to embezzle the fund from the balance amount of Rs 1.3 crore, it was aborted as the KPCC treasurer disagreed to sign the voucher.  The controversy is smouldering in the Indira Bhavan. And this is going to be a topic of hot discussion on October 8, when the party plans to hold political affairs committee meeting to discuss the party reorganisation in detail.

Mullapally Ramachandran is also known to have discussed the issue with former KPCC president M M Hassan.

Defending the allegation, the members concerned said that the amount was set apart for the expense of party mouthpiece, party Channel and Rajiv Gandhi Study Centre. It is also said that Rs One crore was given solely for an institution but this allegation has been denied by a group in the party.
