NEW DELHI: Former Supreme Court Judge Markandey Katju has come out against the Supreme Court order that allows entry for women of all ages in Sabarimala. "In my opinion the majority judgment is incorrect, and the correct judgment is that of Justice Indu Malhotra, the sole dissenting judge," he wrote in a newspaper column.
In his Tweet he says: “The new CJI Gogoi has two choices: either set up seven judge bench to reconsider the Sabarimala verdict, or enforce it in Muslim mosques all throughout the country. Though in theory there is no bar to Muslim women entering mosques, and they do so in Mecca and Madina, in India hardly 1 or 2 % mosques permit entry to Muslim women, who have to pray at home. The justification usually given for this is shortage of space in mosques. But in that case, why preference to men? Why not let women pray inside the mosque, and men may pray outside? Or devise some method of 50-50?
So which alternative will you opt for My Lord? “
