THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: It has been decided, for the time being, not to deploy policewomen at Sannidhanam. Earlier, police had plans to deploy a large posse of women police officers at Sannidhanam on account of the recent Supreme Court order allowing women of all ages to enter Sabarimala. But now, the decision is to send policewomen if more women devotees start reaching Sabarimala. As of now, the current arrangement will continue.

The other day State Police Chief Loknath Behera had said that policewomen would be sent to Sabarimala to provide security for women in the wake of the apex court order. He also hinted at seeking the service of policewomen from other states, if there are no sufficient officers in Kerala to take up the Sabarimala duty.

Meanwhile, the Devaswom board also deputed certain women officers in Sabarimala and it is reported that many of them have expressed their unwillingness to go there.
