THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: World Post day happens each year on October 9, the anniversary of the Universal Postal Union (UPU), which started in 1874 in Switzerland. On the day of world post day, a postwoman in Varkala has escaped narrowly from a snakebite. Someone had put a cardboard box containing a poisonous snake, in the postbox and the box was addressed to postwoman Anila Lal.

Since, the box was addressed to Anila Lal, her colleagues handed over the box to her. However, Anila did not open the box, instead one of her colleagues opened it. The snake was small, and it did not jump out immediately. There was also a note threatening her in which obscene words were used. Varkala police reached the post office and took the box. The police handed over the snake to the forest department in the evening.
