nilakkal-protest

PATHANAMTHITTA: ADGP Anil Kanth has said the police will not allow anyone to block the women (age 10 to 50) who reach Sabarimala to enter the temple.
Strong action will be taken against those who blocked buses.

The incident happened at 11 on Tuesday morning. A team women forced girls including journalists and students out of the KSRTC buses, shouting that they would not be allowed to go to Sabarimala.

For the past eight days, the teams including men as well had been making thorough checking of vehicles; they allowed them to go only after ensuring that there are no women (10-50 yrs) inside.

Finally, DGP Loknath Behera had to rush more police forces and ADGP Anil Kanth to Nilakkal. He has asked the ADGP to provide complete protection to the devotees.

One of the protesting women was heard saying, "No woman belonging to the banned age group of 10-50 will be allowed to travel further from Nilakkal when it opens for the monthly puja tomorrow evening."

The temple nestled in the mountain ranges of the Western Ghats opens Wednesday evening for the first time since the top court verdict. The doors will be closed on October 22 after the five-day monthly puja during the Malayalam month of Thulam.

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan assured on Tuesday that no one would be allowed to block devotees heading towards Sabarimala and all necessary arrangements were made for their safety.

Meanwhile, the chief minister has accused Opposition parties of trying to threaten the government. He once again refuted demand for filing review petition in the Supreme Court.
