KOCHI: Kerala high court has rejected a petition, seeking to bar young women from entering Sabarimala temple unless proper facilities are made available for them there. “The constitutional institutions have the right to implement Supreme Court order and if it is necessary, the petitioner can approach the Supreme Court,” the court observed.
Thrissur native P D Joseph had filed a petition in the high court, seeking not to implement the Supreme Court order in a hurry, using the police force. The petition had come before the division bench comprising Chief Justice Rishikesh Roy and Justice A K Jayashankaran Nambiar.
The petitioner argued against escorting women to the temple using police force, in the absence of proper infrastructure for women. When he said that the police were using force to take women into Sannidhanam, the court said that police were just giving them protection.
