KOCHI: Police have got the information that when football fans rage through the excitement of Indian Super League being played in the stadium in Kochi, match fixers are gambling lakhs of money outside the stadium.

A Kochi man is said to be the head of betting teams that centre their activities in central Kerala. The betting started soon after the ISL season began on September 29 and this is under the observation of Kochi Shadow police.

Meanwhile, the police have not been able to find any role of the players in match-fixing. For taking part in betting one has to spend minimum Rs 50,000. Initially, betting instances were found only in the matches played by Kerala blasters but now it has spread to other matches, according to information received by the police.

The police say that more than fifty persons take part in betting on match days. In each cases the team will get commission. Usually betting is over goals each team scores but it will also be held on the number of corners, free kicks and yellow cards in the first half.

Meanwhile, police have started investigation into the incidents of match fixing. There would be decisive arrests within a week, they said.
