THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Coming down heavily on BJP national president Amit Shah’s statement at a public function in Varkala on Saturday, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has said the BJP president’s statements were against the State government and more so with the Supreme Court verdict, Indian constitution and legal system.

“Amit Shah’s statement that only verdicts that can be implemented need to be pronounced gives the message that fundamental rights ensured by the constitution need not be implemented. His statements have revealed the true minds of the RSS and Sangh Parivar,” Pinarayi said.

Criticising Amit shah’s statement that young women’s entry in Sabaramala is not the way to ensure gender equality, Pinarayi said it showed the BJP national president still stood by the old Manu Smriti argument that woman is not equal to man. “It is also precursor to his argument that it is not through law that caste-based discrimination should be abolished.”

In reply to Amit Shah’s warning that if Sabarimala situation worsens, the BJP will dare to pull down Pinarayi government, the chief minister said his government came to power not because of the magnanimity of the BJP. “The government was selected by the people and Shah’s statements was tantamount to sabotage people’s mandate. People who believe in democracy should raise their voice against this,” he added.
