KOCHI: The Income Tax department has confiscated the 64 cent land sold out by Angamaly Archdiocese of Ernalulam Syro Malabar church. The land at Kakkanadu was sold out by middleman Saju Varghese. The Income department also found out that

Saju Varghese had evaded tax as well. Following this, he was issued a notice, asking him to pay a fine of Rs 10 crore. When in the property document Rs 3.9 crore was mentioned as the cost, the land was sold for Rs 39 crore.

Earlier, in connection with the land deal, a case had been registered against persons including Cardinal Mar George Alancherry. But later the Supreme Court had stayed this.
