THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Leader of Opposition Ramesh Chennithala said that the vigilance enquiry against him is part of revenge politics. He said that the government's action is fuelled by the brewery scam, which was brought into light by Chennithala.

The government has issued an order for conducting a vigilance investigation against the opposition leader for handing over jail land to a private trust. The action was taken by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on the basis of a complaint filed by a Trivandrum native advocate Anoop. The complaint states that Ramesh Chennithala had handed over a two-acre land of Nettukaltheri open jail while he was the home minister. Thiruvananthapuram vigilance special unit is incharge of the investigation. Chennithala had handed over the land for an ashram trust while he was the home minister during the tenure of UDF government. The land was handed over to start a school. The cabinet had decided to lease the land for thirty years by charging 10% of the market value. The decision was taken though it was strongly opposed by the department of law and Rishiraj Singh, who was the jail DGP during that time. Rishiraj Singh had expressed his concerns even after the cabinet decision. His argument was that the land should not be handed over to the trust since there are several programmes to be implemented for the prisoners. However, the complainant say that there is huge scam behind this decision taken by Chennithala. Pinarayi government had cancelled the decision taken by Chennithala.
