THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: It has been alleged that the revenue minister is unaware of the preiliminary works of Sabarimala airpot at Cheruvally estate. The revenue minister and his office has no clue about the airport. The land for airport was acquired by revenue principal secretary P H Kurian and and the preliminary works are being done by KSIDC under the department of industries. US company Louis Berger is the consultant of the airport construction and the works are directly controlled by the Chief Minister's office.

With the airport project, government aims at the development of the pilgrim centre along with an aim to reduce the intensifying protest against the government. This would give a message that the government is against amorality and not against believers or pilgrimage.

The only hindrance to the project is the land ownership dispute over the Cheruvally estate between government and Harrison Malayalam Ltd. The proposed land for airport was sold to Believers Church by Harrison company. Since, it is a government owned land, the state government refused to sanction the sale and took over the land. In a case filed by the Harrison company, court cancelled the government’s act of taking over the land.
