NEW DELHI: Kerala Kaumudi deputy editor V S Rajesh has been chosen for the national award for excellence in journalism, presented by the Press Council of india (PCI). He has been selected under the award category of Developmental Reporting, the PCI said in a statement. He won this award for his series titled ‘Jeevanrakshayilum Kachavadam’ (Business in saving lives) published in the Kerala Kaumudi newspaper. This article about the sale of stents used for heart treatments had an impact on the central government decision to lower the price of stents. The award consists a cash amount of Rs.50,000, a citation, and plaque. The award will be presented at National Media Centre on November 16 which is also the National Press Day.

Veteran journalist and the Hindu Group of Publications Chairman N Ram has been chosen for the prestigious Raja Ram Mohan Roy Award. The selection of awardees was carried out by a jury comprising eminent working journalists, senior editors, owners and managers representing print media.

V S Rajesh have won several awards including one from President of India for bringing SSLC question paper leak into light in 2005. He has also won several other media awards. Rajesh is the son of late Vasukkutty Panicker and Satheedevi, residents of 'Kairali' in Kadappakkada, Kollam. His wife Deepa is a teacher of Vellanad government school in Thiruvananthapuram.
