ALAPPUZHA: Police have filed a case against Janam TV for allegedly telecasting a fake news that a former CPM woman leader’s granddaughter had started for Sabarimala pilgrimage.

The case was filed by Edathala police based on a complaint filed by the CPM leader.

The complaint was filed by former CPM Aluva Area Committee member and Mahila Association Area Secretary Sasikala. She is a native of Edathala and wife of one Raheem.

DySP A R Jayaraj said that a case had been filed under IPC 153 for “spreading fake news with the intention to trigger violence”. In the news it was also mentioned that Sasikala had left for Pamba to receive the granddaughter who will be returning after darshan.

Soon after this news was aired, Sasikala started receiving many threat calls. SI Arun informed that security had provided for the family after that.
