PALAKKAD: The councellor, who had resigned from Congress in Palkkad joined BJP. Saravanan, councellor of Kalpathy ward is the one who left Congress and joined BJP. Palakkad is the only BJP-ruled municipality is the state.

The Congress member had dramatically resigned before considering the no-confience motion moved by UDF against municipality chairperson and vice-chairman, both members of BJP on Monday. Congress councellor V Saravanan resigned as the no-confidence motion was set to be discussed at 9 am. The no-confidence motion will fail as the opposition has lost a member.

In order to pass the no-confidence motion, the opposition needed the support of 27 members. They also needed the support of CPM members and Welfare members to pass the motion. If anyone's vote becomes invalid, then the no-confidence motion will fail. BJP had decided to step aside from the presentation of the motion. CPM had not yet claified their stand. Five Congress members were suspended by the chairperson during the previous municipality elections. BJP claim that the suspension is still valid as the duration has not been mentioned in the minutes.
